Sketchbook: Amsterdam

After staying with some relatives, we made our way down to Amsterdam.

I can’t say too many good things about Amsterdam, except that it is an amazing place and if I could speak Dutch I would seriously consider living there. The buildings, canals, create this wonderfully addictive atmosphere – and, it’s fun imagining Rembrandt walking the streets!

Inspired by my own ancestry as well as the related Northern European graphic art tradition as a whole (some names off the top of my head are Rembrandt, Durer, Lucas Van Leyden, Kollwitz), I found myself adopting the crosshatch more and more.

Here are my drawings, drawings that I could squeeze in between museum-hopping, sleeping and eating… from getting there to the streets of Amsterdam and back again:

And a bit more until back on the train we leave.
